Honoring American Goddesses on Independence Day

Today is a special day for all Americans, it is the birth of our country and that deserves respect. As a Witch and a Pagan I like to honor the Goddesses of our country today. So today, I honor the Goddess Columbia and the great Lady Liberty. I have included some information on both of these ladies here for you as well as a few ways to honor your country magickally. So grab a candle of either red, white, or blue or one of all three colors and dedicate to one or both of these deities. When lighting your candle tell them how thankful you are to live in this country where you can choose to honor whomever you wish in whatever way you wish (with harm to none of course).
In early American history, two female figures were frequently used as cultural symbols of the nation. One, Columbia, was seen as an embodiment of the United States in the manner that Britannia was identified with the United Kingdom and Marianne came to represent France. Columbia had supplanted the earlier figure of an Indian princess, which had come to be regarded as uncivilized and derogatory toward Americans. The other significant female icon in American culture was a representation of Liberty, derived from Libertas, the goddess of freedom widely worshipped in ancient Rome, especially among emancipated slaves.

The Statue of Liberty (Liberty Enlightening the World; French: La Liberté éclairant le monde) is a colossal neoclassical sculpture on Liberty Island in New York Harbor, designed by Frédéric Bartholdi and dedicated on October 28, 1886. The statue, a gift to the United States from the people of France, is of a robed female figure representing Libertas, the Roman goddess of freedom, who bears a torch and a tabula ansata (a tablet evoking the law) upon which is inscribed the date of the American Declaration of Independence, July 4, 1776. A broken chain lies at her feet. The statue has become an icon of freedom and of the United States
Lady Liberty began emerging in America during the colonial era as part of the American quest for political independence from Britain. American patriot Paul Revere may have been the first to depict Lady Liberty in that context. In 1766, on the obelisk he created in celebration of the repeal of the Stamp Act, he used the image of Liberty with a Liberty Pole surmounted by a Liberty Cap. Another patriot leader, Thomas Paine, included Her in his poem, the "Liberty Tree," referring to Her as "The Goddess of Liberty." Freedom Goddess depictions not only emerged in America during its Revolution, but a few years later in France during its own Revolution, with the female symbol of the French Republic, the Marianne, depicted wearing the Liberty Cap, and often accompanied by Liberty's Cat.
On July 4th 1776 the Declaration of Independence was set in motion and with it the birth of our nation.
Spell to Preserve Freedom
Cast a circle and in the center place a United States Flag. If you do not have an actual flag then draw one. At the four cardinal points, place three sparklers and a copy of the Declaration of Independence. Light the sparklers at sundown, and as they burn invoke your deities. Ask them for protection and support of all who defend and reside in this country. Read the Declaration of Independence out loud. Ask that the deities protect all of our servicemen and women who are at home or on foreign soil. Ask blessings on those who have served our country in the past and those who will serve in the future. Circle the flag with a censor saying:
“By the colors that wave over land and sea,
I send my wish that all may be free.”
This spell was written by Paniteowl and comes from the book “Witches Spell a Day Almanac” 2007. I think the deity that you call on for any work on the 4th of July should be Lady Liberty herself.
The following spell was taken from “Witches Spell a Day Almanac” 2010 and was written by Ellen Dugan.
Celebrate Personal Freedoms
Tonight as you head out to watch the fireworks consider using the energy and light of the fireworks display in a creative type of fire magick. When the fireworks begin, look up and focus on the colors, the sounds, and the reaction of the people around you. Tap into this festive mood and channel this energy into a spell that celebrates your right to religious freedom. I suggest writing down the following charm ahead of time, then take it along with you.
“I celebrate tonight my right to live free,
To follow my magickal faith openly.
By fire and color, this freedom spell is begun,
May it open both hearts and minds, bringing harm to none.”

I personally find this spell to be beautifully written and perfect for this special day in our country.
That completes this edition of The Organic Brew’s Blog. I hope you have enjoyed this post and do not forget to enter into my latest product giveaway! We only have a few days left.
Happy Independence Day to all!

Protecting our Children Magickally

As parents we worry about our children constantly. Are they safe? Are they happy? Have they eaten? Did they put sun block on?
I could go on and on with the worries that enter our minds on a daily basis. As magickal practitioners there are steps we can take to give ourselves some peace of mind by casting a protective light around our children.
There are different types of spells you can work to protect your children. I am going to share two of my own with you here.
The 1st is a Clove Protection Spell.
Burn 6 cloves in a cauldron (or any fire safe dish that has been ritually cleansed) till all that is left is ash.
Now take the 1st finger of your power hand and stir the ashes three times clockwise while picturing a protective white light empowering the ashes.
Still using the same finger dab the ashes on your child’s forehead, chin and both cheeks.
Say the following chant or one of your own when applying the ashes:
“Protect (child’s name)
From all strangers and dangers
Allow no harm to come to this child.”

Here is another favorite used to protect your child from bullies and gossip.

Pick a charm, crystal or amulet of your choosing to enchant. Make sure this item is something that your child will keep on their person at all times.
Charge this item in the light of the Sun for three consecutive days while allowing it to also cool in the moonlight at night.
At the end of the 3rd day hold the amulet in your hand and repeat the following chant or one of your own.

“By my will the bullies bind
With focused will and focused mind.
Gossip and strife and left far behind,
Never to enter anyones mind.
My charm protects for evermore,
Till the day my child needs it no more.
In the names of the Lord and Lady
I cast this spell,
Bind it tight and keep it well.
Blessed Be.

I hope you have enjoyed this latest post of Child Protection Spells.
Bright Blessings,

Meditation Made Easy

Meditation Tips
The key when starting meditation is to not expect
too much from yourself to soon.
Remember to take it slowly.
To begin, find a quiet spot where you will not
be disturbed for at least 15-30 minutes.
Different positions work for different people.
You can sit on a chair with your back straight and
feet touching the floor. I prefer to use a large pillow and
sit on that Indian style. You want to be comfortable but not
so comfortable that you fall asleep.
Once you find a comfortable position, relax.
Breathe regularly and relax each part of your body.
Start at your forehead and slowly relax each body part
by picturing the kinks smoothing out. Take as long as
you need on this, do not rush it.
By the time you get to your toes you should feel relaxed.
Once you feel relaxed try to clear your mind.
At this point make your breathing a little deeper
and more focused. Clearing the mind is what most
people struggle with. They get frustrated and
give up when it doesn’t come easily.
The key is to not be hard on yourself.
When thoughts intrude allow yourself to acknowledge
them for a moment and then gently push them aside.
A nice way to do this is to put the thought into
a bubble and allow it to float away. Do this with any
thoughts that intrude. In the beginning this will take
some time and that is ok. After a while your mind
will realize that this is not the time for thinking.
The more you meditate the easier it will be to clear your mind.
At 1st you may only be able to clear your mind for a
few moments at a time however if you
dedicate time to meditation everyday or at least
every other, you will quickly see this time expand.
Before you know it you will find yourself meditating
for much longer times.
Meditation is worth the effort and time! It will bring
you inner balance and clarity.
You will find yourself less stressed and eventually
things like sleep patterns and even your health will improve.
For many it opens the door to clairvoyance
and psychic impressions. It will improve your physical and
spiritual life more then you can imagine.
There are some magickal and organic items
that can aid you with meditation.
 TheOrganicBrew.com offers many wonderful
Organic and Magickal Alchemy Incense Blends,
Perfume and Altar Oil Blends, Salves and
Ointments as well as Meditation Candles.

Enjoy your path to enlightenment through meditation!

Easy and Fun Magickal Amulets

Winter is almost over and with Spring approaching my Witchlet and I put together some magickal herbal amulets for our home. After months of winter the air in the home gets stagnant, herbal amulets are a great way to get the magick flowing again.
These amulets are super easy and fun to make. All you will need is:
Scraps of Fabric
Needle and Thread
Ribbon
Herbal Blend
Pins
crystals, stones, charms

To begin cut your fabric into any shape and size that you want, we decided on hearts. Sew a simple stitch around the border and leave an opening big enough to add your ingredients. Cut your ribbon long anough where you will be able to loop it and sew it to the top of your amulet for hanging. If you are not going to hang yours then you can skip this step.
For an herbal blend you can choose whatever you like. We choose a cleansing prosperity blend. We added:
Sea Salt
Organic Mint
Organic Rosemary
Organic Sage
Pepperint e/o
Lavender e/o
Sage e/o
Crystals and sea stones with runes painted on them
Use your creativity with your amulets. Cut some slips of paper and write chants, runes and magickal symbols on them. Roll your slips of paper and either tape shut or tie with a ribbon. Add to your amulets.
You can also add charms and beads to the front for decoration.
While blending your magickal mixture use an appropriate chant to aid with bringing the intent you choose for your amulet.

Here are some ideas for you:

This charm I hang
with true intent
May it serve me well
And bless me with _____ (add your intent here)
Blessed Be.

Home Protection
Lord and Lady of the day
Keep all harm far away
Set your guard ever near
Let no evil enter here.

Sweet Sleep
My dreams will be sweet and as I sleep
The power of blessings will find me
My rest shall be calm
In slumbers arms
And troubles shall all fall behind me
So mote it be.

Once your blend is complete fill your amulets and hold opening closed with pin till you are able to sew it closed.
That is all, you are done! Now hang your amulets around your home.

I would love to see how you use this idea and make it your own so feel free to send pics here or to my facebook page!
Bright Blessings,
Kat

No Bake Peanut Butter Cup Ice Cream Pie

Today I wanted to share a family pie recipe that will make you the star of any party you serve it at. It is not only simple to make but it is also delicious! My Witchlet and I make this for almost every party we attend and it is always a hit. For this no bake pie you will need:
1/2 gallon of vanilla or chocolate ice cream
1-2 bag of Reeses Peanut Butter Cups (regular size) The amount of cups you need will depend on the size of the pan you are using
1 bag of Reeses Miniatures Peanut Butter Cups (optional)
Hersheys Chocolate Syrup
1 glass pie dish

To begin let your ice cream sit out for about 15-30 minutes to soften. While your ice cream is softening you will take about 10 peanut butter cups and chop them up to small pieces. This is your crust. Layer them at the bottom of the pie dish. Now take about 6 cups (depending on how big your pie dish is) and cut them in half. These are the sides of the crust. We layer the cups so they overlap a bit. When you are finished take your chocolate syrup and dribble a little along the bottom of the pie crust.

Now put this in the fridge to harden.
When you are ready take your softened ice cream and put it in the pie dish and spread it out so it is smooth. Do it gently as not to move around your cups along the side of the dish.

I place this in the freezer overnight covered gently with aluminum foil.
Now you are ready to decorate the top of your pie in anyway you choose. My Witchlet decorated this one and did a magickal job if I do say so myself. She decided we would cut the miniature cups in half and put this in a circle and then sprinkle the syrup back and forth over the top.

I hope everyone enjoys this recipe and I would love to see pics of anyone who chooses to make this.
Bright Blessings and wishing everyone a wonderful summer!

Psychic Bonds Between Friends

I recently reconnected with a close friend whom I have known for almost 20 years. Unfortunately we lost touch about six years ago and thankfully we found our way back to each other. It is wonderful to have her back in my life and I am always amazed at how many time we say things to each other like "I was just going to call you!" or "Your ears must have been ringing as I was just talking about you!".
Our connection to one another has always been strong and that connection is what prompted me to write this blog.
Many people are sensitive to the moods of others, however between close friends the bond can be much stronger. When two people are emotionally linked it is not uncommon to experience moments of extrasensory perception regarding each other. These bonds are at their strongest in times of stress and high emotion. When you think about your friend your mind sends out a signal. Because your friends mind is attuned with yours she can pick it up, almost as if your minds were two radios tuned into the same station.
If you wish to strengthen this bond with your best friend then you need to listen to and trust your intuition. If you have the sudden urge to call your friend then do it. If you have a dream that shows your friend in danger, talk to your friend about the dream so they are aware of a would be danger. I agree that some dreams are nothing more then dreams. The way to tell the difference between "just a dream" and a true psychic warning is the feeling the dream leaves you with. If the dream is very vivid and stays with you for a while, then my advice is to put some stock in it. Trust your instincts and be open minded about your hunches. If you do this you and your friend will only benefit from the strengthened connection you share. Discovering and building psychic links can reinforce friendships and are one of the most profound expressions of friendship possible.
Here is a fun game to play with your friend to strengthen your psychic bonds with one another.
Get a deck of regular playing cards and sit back to back with your friend. Both of you should relax and try to clear your minds of anything other then what you are doing at that moment. Do some relaxing breathing exercises before you begin and most importantly, have fun.
When you are ready to begin, one of you chooses a playing card from the deck. Look at the card and with your mind send the image of the card to your friend. You can do this either by trying to send them a psychic snapshot of the card or by repeating in your mind the card itself. For example if you picked the Queen of Hearts then in your mind repeat "Queen of Hearts" over and over and picture the words floating right into your friends ears. This fun game will actually work at connecting you and your friend. The more you do this the easier it will become.
Another thing you can try is working with memories.  Memories that evoke strong emotions are the easiest to pick up telepathically. Have your friend think of her strongest childhood memory. Describe any imagery that comes to your mind. Does it relate to her memory?
The more you both practice this, the stronger your psychic bond will become. And lastly, treasure your best friend. Every girl, teenager and woman needs a true best friend in their life. Someone who will be there to catch them if they fall.
Thank you for stopping by The Organic Brew, I would love to hear your thoughts on this subject. Wishing everyone a magickal day filled with love, light and laughter.
